Chinese New Year celebrations

We went to our closest China town to observe the New Year celebrations today.

We saw Chinese artists performing and after quite a long wait we finally saw the dragon and the drums. The dragon was small and unsophisticated in it's movements compared to ones I had seen on TV, but the atmosphere compensated for that. We had a great view and got to watch the dragon for about thrity minutes or more, dancing and 'devouring' special decorations hung in the doorways of the restaurants, before he headed on down in the parade.

The firecrackers were a bit of a surprise. I'm not sure what I expected but I was surprised at the way in which they were hung up and just how loud they were.

We enjoyed the experience. The waiting was a bit of a drag at the beginning but had we not made our way to the front and then just sat it out till the show started Hermione would probably have been unable to have seen anything from the back of the crowds. Some of the restauranteurs came out and gave the children fortune cookies which sweetened the wait *smile*.

We wanted to take Satch to the parade in DC, but it was way to cold. Nice photos...you really captured the moment.
