Clepsydra, cygnets etc

This morning we made a clepsydra (water clock).

We cut an old plastic bottle in half and put a hole in the top with a drawing pin. We stuck a sticky label on the side and recorded the water level at one minute, two minutes and so on. Ours was scientifically flawed as the bottom of the bottle was bumpy, but hey ho, we had fun and Hermione grasped the concept.

We read this English Heritage book about the Romans. I'd say it is probably aimed at slightly younger children but we still enjoyed it.

Cygnets in the park this afternoon.

Driving through town this evening I noticed lots of students going out dressed in rara skirts with ankle sock and leg warmers. Goodness, I feel ever so old!
