This inspired us to get on and look at a book which we have had for a couple of years but haven't really looked at properly till now. It's called The Story of Painting by Abigail Wheatley ISBN 9780746076965
The chapters include Cave Painting to Classical, The Middle Ages, The Renaissance, High Drama and Quiet Lives, Revolution, Modern Times and a timeline.
It is quite heavily illustrated with very appealing colourful pictures throughout. Having said that it still contains masses of information and I would estimate it to be most suitable for the 7 to 11 sort of age range.
I can't say more than that right now as we have just read one chapter, but so far so good!
