Low impact homes

Craig has always wanted to live in a hillside - yes I know it's odd but he has talked about it on quite a few occasions over the years I have known him.

I've recently been thinking more and more about low impact housing. Perhaps we could combine both our dreams with a home like this?

You can read more about this house here. I think it's fascinating but have to say that in all honesty when it came to the crunch I just don't think I could give up my creature comforts. I'm now quite fanatical about composting the kitchen waste, but whether I'm ready for a composting toilet is a very different matter.

Oh how simple our lives could be.I too would have difficulty giving things up but as time goes on it becomes more and more appealing.

I am enjoying reading Gills blog on living off grid over at Sometimes it's peacefull, along a similar path.xx

Just catching up after a few days away...

Would love to live in a house like this in some ways but in others...

Hope Miles recovers soon, poor little mite, thinking of you both.

eventually we would love to live like that, I don't mind the idea of composting toilets!! We're hoping to have solar + wind power here next year.

Hope Miles is better

I do think it is a gradual progression for many people. I do things now I wouldn't have done a few years ago like composting, growing veg, making toiletries etc. Give it another five years and I may be quite happy with thought of composting toilets etc.

Pleased keep us informed on your wind and solar power Amanda. We have looked into both and feel wind is the way for us to go - at least initially. Hopefully we will get round to making some serious headway with it this year.

Thank you everyone for asking after Miles. He's almost back to his normal self thankfully.

They shouldn't be building houses now that don't have rainwater toilets or composting ones although I don't think we should use our waste if we eat meat as it attracts rats.
