Unplugged Project

The theme for this weeks Unplugged Project was plastic.

Once again we tried to crochet with plastic carrier bags - and once again it was an exercise in frustration and disappointment I'm afraid!

last year we out a national trust property and some sort of workshop had been on. Not sure if you can imagine this, trees with strips of plastic bags woven to make dream catcher type structures... sounds odd but they were actually very pretty :0)

Bummer, it is disappointing when the projects don't turn out how we thought they should.

Try just having her do a chain with her fingers. It will be big but will help her understand. Also use a very large hook to start out with as her small hands are not ready for such a task. She can make a long chain and form it into a plant hanger, a place mat, decorate a picture frame or just free form art of her choosing.

I have seen those bags made out of strips of plastic bags but it looked like way too much work for me! I just saw one where you cut the handles and bottoms off of a stack of bags and iron them to fuse them and then cover with colored duct tape to make a new bag (looks much easier).

That's a shame. It's a great idea! What wasn't working right?

Thanks for joining in and posting your results.

Hopefully next week's project will be more fun!

I hope you don't mind but I've linked you on my blog.

Don't mind at all. I'll have to call by later. I've been having access problems - just thought you must be keeping the riff raff out :-)

Thank you everyone for the comments. We picked up a chunky crochet hook at the shops today (all of ours are really thin as I tend to crochet with cotton and silks a lot of the time) and it is much better when using plastic. Still a bit tricky though.

I think we'll try recycled denim instead. I have had visions of a denim bowl on the kitchen table for quite some time now - not exactly practical I know but life's way too short to be practical all of the time!

Crocheting plastic, hmm interesting concept, I struggle with the basics :)
